The people we interact with play a significant role in shaping our consciousness, beliefs, and behaviour. This article explores various experiences with different groups of people and highlights the impact they can have on our lives.
University Years
During my University years, I found myself surrounded by individuals who exhibited high levels of consciousness. The University I attended was prestigious, and many students held positive attitudes. Even the teachers displayed an excellent attitude, contributing to the positive atmosphere. Being in these individuals’ companies affected my thoughts and behaviours, making it one of the good periods of my life.
Working in my First Corporate Job
Upon entering the corporate world after graduation, I experienced a stark contrast. Surrounded by highly talented and driven colleagues, I felt invigorated and uplifted. These individuals considered the cream of the crop in their respective fields, exuded positivity and a solution-focused mindset. This period became one of the most motivating phases of my life, inspiring me to strive for excellence.
Encountering Sleepwalkers
In my day-to-day life, I frequently come across individuals I refer to as “sleepwalkers.” These individuals lack a sense of purpose and focus, merely going through the motions of working, eating, sleeping, and seeking mindless entertainment. Discussing with them often concerns lower-level topics, such as gossip, complaints, and general weariness. Elevating the conversation to higher-level, love-based subjects like personal growth and purposeful living becomes challenging.
Interacting with Millionaires
At one point, I had the opportunity to interact with a group of millionaires. Although the experience was eye-opening, the focus of our conversations centred heavily on materialism, extrinsic possessions, and a luxurious lifestyle. While not all wealthy individuals exhibit these traits, this group emphasises material wealth. However, I later encountered conscious, cheerful, and generous millionaires who defied these stereotypes, highlighting that wealth does not necessarily equate to a specific mindset or behaviour.
The Influence of Surrounding Individuals
Two factors contribute to how our thoughts and actions are influenced by those around us. Firstly, our personal consciousness and resilience determine our susceptibility to external influences. Secondly, the collective consciousness of the individuals we spend time with plays a significant role. Even with high levels of consciousness and intelligence, constant exposure to negative, fear-based individuals can hinder our personal growth. Conversely, surrounding ourselves with positive, successful individuals who take responsibility for their lives can foster proactive behaviour and facilitate personal development.
The Example of Robert Kiyosaki
Robert Kiyosaki’s “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” book provides an illustrative example. He recounts having two father figures: his real dad, who had limited views on money, and his “rich dad,” a wealthy individual with a proactive mindset. Kiyosaki consciously chose to learn from his “rich dad,” absorbing his positive beliefs and adopting a perspective that eventually led to his success.
Identifying Your Core Circle
To assess the impact of your social circle, consider the following questions:
1. Who do you want to become Define your ideal self and the qualities you wish to possess.
2. Who are the five people you spend the most time with Analyse their qualities and determine their influence on your personal growth.
3. Do these individuals align with your desired future self Evaluate whether their qualities support or hinder your vision.
4. Who are the top five people embodying your desired qualities These can be individuals who have achieved similar goals or possess traits you aspire to.
5. How can you increase contact with these individuals Explore methods such as direct communication, studying their work, or visualising their personas.
Transitioning to the New You
Increasing contact with individuals who embody your desired qualities may initially make you feel like a misfit. Their different perspectives and language can be unfamiliar. However, consistent engagement will gradually shift your consciousness, aligning you with their mindset. You will find yourself thinking and speaking like them, influencing your actions and ultimately shaping the results you achieve in life.
Choosing the people we surround ourselves with profoundly impacts our personal growth and development. By assessing the influence of our social circles, we can intentionally select individuals who elevate and support us on our desired path. While severing all relationships is unnecessary, it is crucial to monitor our interactions and prioritise connections that empower us to become the best version of ourselves. By consciously Influence our social environment, we shape our future.
